Q.J.E.L. Concern. I put my name into Google and came up with references to me which I had not seen before. One was a letter of thanks I sent to another club to which I belong, the other was referring to an open letter which I wrote and which was published in the Port Macquarie Seniors Computer Group Newsletter |

A. Harry Google uses search techniques on internet websites and will often turn up references to various items from those websites, in the case of our website it would have the newsletter. The only way to avoid this is not to put any names in the original article so that Google cannot identify the author. The use of a pseudonym might overcome the problem but the article still might appear |

One then just opens it like any other program and use like Internet Explorer. It is a good idea to also use the compatible email program which is Thunderbird. Q - from Monthly Meeting I recently found that my web browser was showing a porn site which had appeared without any action on my part. |
|
A. Harry: It appears that you may have inadvertently downloaded the porn site onto your computer which had placed a 'cookie' into Internet Explorer. A cookie is a small piece of information stored in your computer and placed there by a website. Most of them are harmless and help your computer to find a website you previously accessed more quickly. In your case to remove those cookies go to Internet Explorer. Select Tools/Internet Options/General Tab and click on Delete Cookies which will remove all cookies. If you are using Mozilla Firefox go to Tools/Options and then Privacy tab followed by the Clear Button in the Cookies section. You should also check your Favorites or Bookmarks and delete any suspicious links and also in your Recycle Bin . It is also important that you have your Anti Virus program running and up to date. Some porn sites are linked to other suspicious websites and so be very careful about the sites you access. |
