Q: L.P.
I have taken my photos off th HDD and placed them into an External Drive. Now I cannot see them in Picasa. How can I rectify this I do not want them placed back onto my HDD.
A: Peggy
Now from what I can see you are using XP. You cannot therefore set Picasa as your default photo viewer. There is a way to view the photos from the External Drive, and work on them in Picasa without uploading. It is not the ideal way but it will work. Plug in the External Drive find the folder with the photos. Open the folder. It will most likely open in Windows Photo Gallery. Right Click on the photo you want to work on, choose "Open with Picasa" The Photo will then open with Picasa, and you can work on it without it being uploaded into your Computer. By doing it this way, you will not have the folders showing in Picasa as you have done in the past. The normal procedure for Picasa is to Import from the External Drive and place the photos into My Pictures. Picasa does not actually "hold" any pictures, just a link to them. I guess it depends on what you want to do. Hope this has been helpful

Q: A.R.
How does one avoid getting multiple copies of photos after uploading them and putting into a folder. I highlight them, try to delete them but more copies are made.
A: Peggy
It would appear that what is happening is you are not removing the pictures from your camera once they have been placed onto the computer and backed up to another device outside your computer.
Whatever program you are using whether it is the one which came with your Camera, or Picasa, or whatever, there will be a button "exclude duplicates" This must be ticked, otherwise you will end up with duplicates evertime you upload to your computer.

Your best bet would be to download the free program Pixresizer. You can use this on either Vista or XP. The website is: http://www.bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm

Is there a good easy to use freeware program available for burning files and pictures onto DVD's?
I currently have Nero which I find difficult to use.
A: Peggy
I note from previous questions that you are using XP.
XP does not have the ability to burn DVD's. Why not use Picasa 3. For your pictures. This is a free program (it is on our Group CD)
Instructions: Open Picasa 3. Click Folder on the toolbar, Click Create Gift CD.
Choose the folder you wish to Burn, more folders may be added by clicking on them and using the ADD button.
Give the DVD a Name.
Insert the DVD. Click Burn Disc. Be patient when the new window arrives CLICK Write.
This will take a few minutes, especially if you have a lot of pictures.
P.S. You cannot add to the DVD once it is burnt.
The DVD will open in Vista.
The pictures cannot be altered whilst on the DVD they must be returned to the computer for that purpose.

"Photos In Picasa 3 how do you add a caption about the photo"
A: Harry:
There are now two ways to add a caption one underneath it the other by adding text to the actual photo.
1)To add a caption underneath the photo: Open Picasa 3, Go to your folders. Find the individual photo you wish to caption. Double click on the photo. This will open in a new window. Click "Make a caption" (this is a greyed area) underneath the photo. Write your caption. The caption will stay with the picture until deleted.
2)To add a Caption or Text to the actual Photo: Double Click on the Photo and it will open in a new window. Click on the Text Box which has ABC written on it. Text will appear on the picture and an Edit Text Box will open. Start typing the text and it will appear on the photo, adjust the text, size, colour, transparency and you will see it change on the picture. Click on the picture and a coloured box will appear around the text together with a circle with a small pointed arrow and a four pointed star, which will change to a hand when you left click on the small target like circle. You can then move the text to any place on the picture by clicking on the four pointed star by holding the left button down and moving it around your photograph, you can also stretch it out to a larger of smaller size. If you like the final result click the apply button. I suggest you experiment with a few different texts, colours etc.
