A.Peggy: If you wish to print from your laptop it is necessary to place the software program on the Laptop. The Laptop does not know what programs are on your desktop! | Date 10 May 09

Comment J.N. Members are probably aware that in order to re-install their system in the event of a major software failure, they have to run the "recovery" software which is usually installed on a separate partition of their HD. If they went to the trouble of creating a CD or DVD when they first got their computer, it can be used. However, in either case, the system is only restored to the configuration it came with - all subsequent data and programs are lost. To overcome this an installation DVD may be purchased from Microsoft [phone 132058] for about $40 including postage. This can be used to "repair" rather than "recover" so all current programs and data are not lost in the process. It can only be used with the original product key.

Q. BG. | What is the Foxit program used for?
A. Harry: | Members will often receive email with PDF attachments or they download documents in Portable Document Format (PDF), particular forms or booklets. Many computer and peripheral manufacturers now print their instruction booklets in PDF which can either be read on the monitor or printed on your printer. To be able to read the document or print it you will need a special program like Adobe Reader which is a free program or Foxit which is an alternative program. As will you see above, Foxit claims that their program is much faster. |
